Love In The Moon
Into the realm of the moon let's walk
And engage us in love's endless talk
Since none're jealous there to disturb us
So we'll nurture our love in great hush
With her brilliance the moon'll croon
Some lovelores of past in a sweet tune
And stars'll enthuse us in endless dance
And comets'll crack in their celestial race
In happiness we 'll roam there ever
Sans mortal trauma and earthly fear
Peace a divine elixir we 'll drink sure
Since our souls are united in love pure
There in solitude we'll obtain divine bliss
As we'll clasp together and share our kiss.
Woman
The summer sun she has been
Hot and bright, and in beauty shining
Above the mist of patriarchy now she shines
And walks tall cutting across gender lines
She is never meek, rather holds a reason
To compete and rise with her clear vision
She's a creator, and God's best creation
A feeder too with her love and affection
Each passing day now she grows stronger
No Dushasan, Ravana or Gautama can hurt her
Now and never since she has got her voice
To call spade a spade, so she's got her choice
Still, for her hubby and children she's a hope and comfort
As a daughter, sister and wife, for them she's the last resort.
I Can't Understand
The wheel of time has turned
So has turned the seasons-
One after another
From summer to many a winter
Raking up my memory now I murmur
Ever since you left me
I've kept abreast of your promises
As soon as the spring ended
I've no trust in them
As if in love they're meant to be broken
And a lover is like a politician
Skillful at making a swift turn
But I can't understand
How can you play with my emotion?
If I try, I can only tame my mind
(Though I miss you every moment)
But what about my heart?
That smoulders with the trails of longing
And burns me every now and then
Inch by inch with your every inch of distance
And the pain of standing straight with a broken heart?
Since memory grows heavier every moment over a shrunken heart
And the one who leaves,
Who breaks promises, can't know that
Even the springy aroma has failed to lift my heart
And the cuckoos song has failed too to enthuse me for a new start
Since the memory turns heavier every moment
So it never allows me to walk straight and be prudent.
Small Kindnesses
Our small Kindnesses 're great gestures
To win hearts
From surrounding masses
Like rays of sun in the cloudy sky
Or showers of rain in summer day
Our unstinted love, a soothing balm
For men in distress who reel in pain
With every greet their hearts sway
Souls thrill and they happily pray
And bless us for life to happily stay.
Yes To Karma, No To Fruits
'Trust me and do your karma',
So said the Lord once to friend Arjuna
Without desire for the fruits
Is what to him as a doer better suits
We need to have our sincerity and devotion
And with humility and dedication do our action
The fruit of labour is always sweet
Which now or in the end we'll surely eat
If our labour yields today a rich harvest
Don't be content rather more seeds we plant
We're what today, is the result of our past karma
So plant more seeds and let action be our dharma.
( Prafulla K. Panda, MA, M.Phi., Ph.D (b. 1978...). A teacher by profession and a poet by passion, Dr Panda's poetic trajectory traverses across human life, society and beyond. His wide range of verses delve into intricacies of human relationship diving in its myriad shades of love, passion, emotion, mortality and death. For Dr Panda, poetry is not merely a tapestry of words but each word is a microcosm of the whole that opens the windows of eternal bliss and contentment. Like a mystic he never fails to surprise by blending the concrete with the abstract, the near with the far and the material with the spiritual. His poetry celebrates both free and rhymed verse though the latter often dominates the poetic structure.
Dr Panda is a widely published poet. His poems have been published in various national and international anthologies, magazines and online platforms and translated to other languages too. He has published two collections of poetry named “Bounty of Silence: Verses Unveiling the Songs of Soul”, and "Beacon of Hope: A Symphony of Verses" and edited an inter-continental anthology “Beyond the Horizon”.
